Support of the Community

Vercruysse Murray & Calzone provides pro bono legal advice for the Oakland County Bar Association.

Susan Hartmus Hiser is a Member of the Board of Directors and Co-Chair of the Personnel Committee of United Cerebral Palsy of Metropolitan Detroit. Employees at our firm have supported this cause by participating in UCP’s annual Casual Day and various other events held throughout the year. Ms. Hiser provides pro bono legal advice for UCP of Metropolitan Detroit.

The firm has sponsored a team for the Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure to raise money for breast cancer research since 2002. The 2008 team included Linda Berman, Jacki Barnes, Jackie Bole, Amy Parker, Kellie Carl and Sandra Engebretsen. The team receives pledges from a majority of the firm’s employees.

Sandra Engebretsen is involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and participates in their annual Great Strides event and other fundraisers. Employees at our firm give financial support to Sandra’s efforts.

Jacki Barnes and Amy Parker participated in and collected pledges for the 2008 Mutt March for the Michigan Humane Society.

VMC was a Bronze Sponsor of the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter’s Participation in the 2006 Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference.

VMC is a supporter of the Plymouth Community Arts Council’s Annual Dinner Auction. Dave Calzone is a former president of the PCAC and also a former president of Artsco Foundation, a foundation supporting the PCAC.

Jacki Barnes has coordinated Vercruysse Murray & Calzone’s participation in the Volunteers of America Program to adopt a family for the 2007 & 2008 holiday seasons. VMC collected money and gifts to give deserving families a very special holiday including gifts and a special meal.

Bernice McReynolds serves on the Board of Directors of ArborVitae, Inc.’s Women’s Center and Pregnancy Help Center. The Ann Arbor based Center is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization providing a life-affirming safety net of medical, counseling, referral, and material support services for women facing unexpected pregnancies. Located in the heart of the University of Michigan campus, ArborVitae Women's Center focuses on fulfilling the particular needs of students who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant.

Danielle Beasley made provisions for the people at Vercruysse Murray & Calzone to donate to the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Barristers' Clothing & Book Drive to collect clothing, linens and books for the Salvation Army, Capuchins and Fort Street Presbyterian Church.
