About the Authors
Mr. Goldstein is a graduate of Duke University (B.A., cum laude, 1994) and Th e University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 1999). At the law school he served as associate editor of the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. While studying at law school, Mr. Goldstein interned with the Jackson County (Michigan) Prosecutor’s Offi ce. Prior to joining Vercruysse Murray & Calzone, P.C., he was an associate with Bodman, Longley & Dahling LLP in Detroit.
Mr. Goldstein practices in the areas of immigration and litigation. He is a member of the State Bar of Michiganand the Oakland County Bar Association. He is a co-author of EmploymentLitigation in Michigan, 2nd Edition (ICLE 2004).
Ms. Clephane has extensive experience handling immigration matters and defending employers in I-9 compliance actions. She specializes in business immigration, specifi cally matters aff ecting employers and their employees. Ms. Clephane has extensive experience advising U.S. and non-U.S. employers who seek to employ foreign nationals in the United States, as well as experience facilitating the employment of U.S. workers abroad. She regularly counsels management and industry groups on strategic planning immigration issues related to establishing new U.S. enterprises and has facilitated on-site employer training to human resource personnel on temporary worker classifications, student employment, national interest waivers, university professor and researcher issues, permanent residence procedures, use of contract employees, NAFTA, I-9 compliance, and IRCA discrimination matters. Ms. Clephane has been listed in Michigan Super Lawyers. Ms. Clephane is a graduate of Wayne State University (B.A., high distinction, 1986) and Wayne State University Law School, (J.D., cum laude, 1991), where she was Note and Comment Editor of the Wayne State University Law Review. She is Chair of the International Employment Law and Immigration Committee of the International Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. She is a past Board Member of the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit and the American Arab and Jewish Friends. Ms. Clephane has written numerous articles on immigration law in professional journals and in immigration newsletters and has co-authored The Attorney-Client Privilege and the Work Product Doctrine in Michigan, (1992) for the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She also writes and edits a monthly column, The Immigration Corner, for the Michigan Employment Law Letter.
Kathleen Saenz Poppengeris a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. 1985) and Wayne State University Law School (J.D. 1994). She is a member of the Michigan Bar Association and has been admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan since 1994. Actively working in the field of immigration law since 1986, Kathleen has significant experience in processing business and family-related immigration matters, including H-1B temporary worker visas, business visitors, L-1 intra-company transferee visas, treaty trader/investor visas, free trade visas, labor certification and employment based permanent residence processing, family visas, fiancée visas, and a variety of other business and family immigration matters. Prior to joining Vercruysse Murray & Calzone, Kathleen was a sole practitioner for more than eight years, specializing in immigration & nationality law, serving large and small employers, individuals and families. She is fluent in Spanish with the additional ability to communicate in the French and Italian languages. Since 1994, Kathleen has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, a national network of information and experts in the field of immigration law. She has served on the Technology Committee for the Michigan Chapter of the AILA and regularly attends the national conferences to stay current with the constant changes in government process and procedure. She is well versed in the utilization of web-based case management and client reporting. Kathleen is a member of the American Bar Association, International Law section, and is listed in the Metropolitan Who’s Who, a listing of top executives, professionals, and entrepreneurs from around the world.
